Sustainability Management 2.0: Unleashing the Power of Data for Sustainable Success

The course is delivered virtually online by BEC on behalf of Coventry College as part of the Adult Education Skills Boot Camps funded by the WMCA. 

This 8-week course is designed with industry experts to demystify sustainability for employees. We will upskill you to become a champion in sustainability and net zero, enabling you as an individual to support your business’s transition to a much more sustainable future.

This course is for someone wanting to become a sustainability expert and practitioner, or current sustainability managers looking to advance their knowledge and join a like minded community. Every participant will end this short course with an appreciation of sustainability and the significance of information management in our increasingly digital world.

You will be taught from a project management perspective and not an academic or technical one.

You will receive a Certificate of Completion from BEC in partnership with Coventry College, showcasing your accomplishment to your current and future employers. 

Other than a sought-after and respected qualification, you will also receive access to a community of practitioners, 1-1 mentoring and business development meetings and support in promotion within your organisation.

What you will Learn

The course is split into 8 modules, seven core modules on sustainability and one module covering personal and professional skills development.

Commitment of hours: 60 hours

The course launches the 22nd January and runs till March 19th (8 weeks) running Mondays and Tuesdays.


The virtual live sessions will be Mondays and Tuesdays 4-6pm UK time every week. The rest of the hours will be done flexibly through assisted homework sessions and mentoring and coaching sessions.

(if you are not able to attend, you may watch the recordings but a minimum of 80% of live sessions will need to be attended for passing the course). 

Module 1: Introduction to sustainability, business and governance

  • Understand the foundations of sustainability and its evolution in contemporary business contexts.
  • Explore the global challenges that drive the need for sustainable practices.
  • Introduce key sustainability frameworks and standards.

Module 2: Sustainability and Business Principles

  • Dive into core sustainability principles and their integration into business models.
  • Analyse case studies of successful sustainability initiatives across various industries.
  • Discuss the role of corporate social responsibility and ethics.

Module 3: Operations and internal focus

  • Explore the nexus of carbon emissions, climate change, and data analytics.
  • Learn to measure, track, and reduce carbon footprints using data-driven approaches.
  • Case studies on organisations effectively managing carbon through data.


Module 4: Designing for a circular economy

  • Examine the concept of a circular economy and its relevance to sustainability.
  • Understand how data can optimise resource efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Explore examples of businesses implementing circular economy practices.


Module 5: Engaging stakeholders and supply chain

  • Investigate the impact of supply chains on sustainability.
  • Explore Scope 3 emissions and how data can be leveraged for supply chain sustainability.
  • Implement data-driven strategies for enhancing supply chain sustainability.


Module 6: Roadmapping to sustainability

  • Develop sustainability roadmaps with a focus on measurable goals and data-driven milestones.
  • Understand the role of policies and regulations in shaping sustainable practices.
  • Analyse how data can inform and support compliance with sustainability policies.


Module 7: Behaviour change & Communication

  • Explore effective communication strategies for sustainability initiatives.
  • Understand how data can be used to transparently communicate sustainability performance.
  • Develop skills in crafting compelling narratives around sustainable practices.

Module 8: Your Skills Development

  • Discuss the evolving role of sustainability professionals in the modern workforce.
  • Explore career opportunities and skillsets required for sustainability management.
  • Develop a professional development plan.
